Not a lot of hype behind this PPV. Bisping vs Evans…. not a main event in my books. Always fun to watch two guys on the rise get after it, but when your paying for it you expect some established champs to be throwing down, especially given the talent pool in the UFC with the Pride purchase. And yet, I watched it anyway… so I’ll carry on now.
Fischer vs Edgar
Lost 10 bucks. Edgar dominated Fishcer. It was take down after take down after take after take down after take down….. Makes for a sleeper to watch but in reality Edgar did a great job of controlling Spencer. Spencher was unable to defend any take downs and could not get a sweep / submission attempt on the ground once he was down. Spencer is a scrappy guy, so hats off to Frankie. Guys going to do well.
Ed Herman vs Derkson
No bet on this one. Was cheering for the Winnipeg boy just because he’s a Winnipeg boy plus Herman has never dazzled me with anything. This time was no exception really. He controlled the first two rounds but really did not do much. ~ 15 secs left in the 2nd and Derkson hits a triangle / arm bar. SAVED BY THE BELL HERMAN and you know it!!!! Then in the third Shortfuse popped Derkson with a left hook that put him to sleep. The punch was nice but what a sloppy mess leading to it. Looked like a drunk guy flailing in a bar brawl. Lucky connect with the left. Ed won, but…. Boooooooooooooooooooooo
Chonan vs Karo
Won 10 bucks. I like Karo. Tough kid fighting adults at 16 yrs old and schooling them. Bit of a cocky bastard as we all saw on Ultimate Fighter when he was lippy with Nate Diaz. But hey, what top fighter isn’t. Met Karo in Vegas with Ray. Seemed like a nice guy. Let us get a pic and he was patient about it as it was kind of a cluster when we took it with people all around. Genuine guy. He fought a tough Pride guy in Chonan. the way Chonan beat Anderson…. WOW, that’s a highlight real for all of time that take down to heel hook. It’s the kind you practice in the dojo with the thought you’d never really hit it. Damn! Pride guys are not having a lot of luck. Maybe the rule differences of maybe UFC guys are just a little better. Hard to tell. Anyways, Karo owned the fight all three rounds. He looked like he was breathing heavy the whole time though but was able to turn it up when needed. He needs to join Crossfit. Nuff said. I like Karo, but he’s talking title fight already…. patience grasshopper…. win a few more first then ask for it. Gonna have to wait for GSP to fight the winner of Matt vs Matt anyway. Put the title out of mind, work on your cardio, fight 2 more times and win strong, then start chirping White.
Thiago vs Alexander
We talked about this prior to the fight. Alexander has demolished his last two opponents including the guy who just beat Chuck L. ( What’s his name again? Oh yeah, Jardine). Now, mentally, you have put two guys out hard and fast… do you think your King of the Mountain now? Even though you have not really been tested? Hard not to be over confident I would think. Thiago had a solid plan, take him down and work him. And work him he did. He KO’d him. However Alexander has a chin man…. wow… took a lot of dead on solid punches to knock him out. Rogan said ” Well we found a Hole in Alexanders game”. Just a hole? He was so lost on the ground it was brutal. All he did was try and power out with a bridge from full mount. He must have next to No BJJ experience. In my opinion we will see Alexander like we used to see Tank Abbot. He will ruin average guys but never beat top flight guys. Fun to watch him win but he’s going no where. By the way Won 10 bucks on this one.
Bisping vs Evans
Lost 10. Bet was not my pick, but what can you do. Really, not alot to say. Raschad took him down with ~ 75% of his attempts. but Bisping did a good job of standing up from them. Tito was not as good as Bisping was at it. It was a split decision in the end… I thought Evans should have gotten all three Judges cards. But what ever, poor main event. Nuff said.
