Summer 2007 – ICAD Fitness Challenge

Ray Burton And Mack Kay MMA WorkoutMan did we have some fun this saturday. I skipped the regular in gym stuff in favor of getting a tan while training with my MMA friends from ICAD. Wayne you set up a wicked fun MMA workout. We did three fitness challenges (read insane fat burning workout). There was a 15 minute break inbetween each one. In order to give out some prizes (which the old men, Mack and myself won…young punks…) Actually I’ll take that back, they are MMA Fighters…Any way they recorded our times. So instead of a “sense of accomplishment from simply finishing” style workout…it turned into a “find a nice place to puke” sort of affair…

Here is our Saturday Outdoor MMA workout.

Fitness Challenge One: The Cardio Workout
50 pushups
Sprint up the hill
20 overhead squats (I seem to remember 25 Wayne..)
Run down the side to the bottom
Farmers walk with water cooler jugs full of sand
Sledgehammer tire chops 25 per side
Sprint and crawl under two yellow bars.

Fitness Challenge Two: The Bodyweight Workout
You and your partner have to complete high repetition of exercises on after another. There is no break inbetween. You can decide who goes first and you simply have to take turns until you AS A PAIR finish the number of each exercise.

100 Jump Squats
100 Burpees
200 Sit ups
250 Bicep curls

Fitness Challenge Three: The Sprint and Punch Workout
You will have a partner again however he will hold the focus mitts and push you to finish the round. It is called the Spartan 300 punching exercise. (I claim no responsibility for the cheese factor of the name)

Sprint to orange pylons and frog jump with medicine ball.
When you come back to your partner do 100 straight punches.

Side shuffle to pylons with medicine ball and leave medicine ball at pylons.
Sprint backwards to your partner and you do 100 hooks.

Sprint to pylons and do 60 alternating knees strikes.
Sprint back to your partner with medicine ball and do 100 upper cuts.

The purpose of this fitness challenge workout is to find out how much you can push yourself. Sometimes we can push far more when you have other people participating with you or competing against you. However you are doing this for yourself (and bragging rights…sorry Wayne). So remember to do your personal best (lose your breakfast on the grass…sorry again Wayne) and we will have fun, safe time at this first ICAD fitness workout challenge.
