Is Too Little Fat Dangerous?

It seems like everyone is trying to cut the fat out of their diets lately. So I thought I would share with you some of the risks of having too little fat in your diet.

Here we go:

There are several dangers to having too little fat in your diet. Too little fat in your diet will decrease your ability to assimilate fat soluble vitamins. Just like amino acids, there are certain EFA’s (essential fatty acids) that the body cannot produce and must be procured though diet. Certain fats also help regulate your blood pressure. Of course too much fat in the diet can lead to an excess of calories causing obesity but that is not what I’m getting into on this particular post.

What’s a good total for fats? Everyone is different but depending on what you are after and your eating plan, 15-20% of your daily calories should come from healthy fats.
