Is Diet Pop Ok?

Diet Question:
Hey Ray, why is diet soda something that should be eliminated from the diet. Is it the aspartame or sodium??? I understand why regular soda is not an option but unclear on diet soda.

Thanks

Lisa

Hi Lisa, I hope I did not already reply to this email and you are now getting a double answer! I just saw it in my inbox and realize it is a couple days old.

Even diet pop is not suggested for a couple of reasons when it comes to health and weight loss. First is the aspartame like you suggested. It is questionable the health effects it may have and research I have read suggests that it is very acidic and acidic environments is where diseases in the body come from.

The active ingredient in most soda pop is phosphoric acid. The pH of most soda pop is 2.8, which is very acidic. As we discuss in detail in the body PH page, you want your diet to ALKALIZE your body, and ingesting a highly acidic drink like soda pop does the opposite and is very detrimental to your health. Phosphoric acid also leaches calcium from bones and is a major contributor to the rising increase in osteoporosis.

Lastly, if you are drinking pop…you are not drinking water!
Hope that helps!
