Does Fitness Have To Hurt?

Hurt sounds kind of negative, don’t you think? Lets put it another way. Why do you have to challenge yourself when you work out? There, that sounds better! Lets make this simple and do it in point form.

1. The reason people work out is to cause a change to their bodies.
2. The body will only change in appearance or ability when subjected to an unaccustomed stress.
3. An unaccustomed stress mean that you have to do more, go harder or try something new.
4. When you do more than your used to, train harder or do something you have never done it always seems “challenging”.

Do what you have always done and you will get what you’ve always had.
Now back to the “hurt” part. There is good hurt and bad hurt. Dull aching or a sharp sudden pain is bad and you have to find out what your doing wrong. Burning and fatigue are the good hurt and are necessary for improvement. Here is a little quote that was popular when I was in the army. It’s a little macho but its still cool, "Pain is just a sign of weakness leaving the body".

Grrrrrr! Just remember the difference between good hurt and bad hurt okay?
