Starting Your Fitness Workout At The Gym And Staying In Shape.
![]() |
When starting to workout at the gym there are several things you should look into before starting. I think your gym selection is one of the most important. This is because if you end up not liking the place, you will not be as likely to show up for your workouts and staying in shape will become a chore. Make sure you like the feel of the gym and that since you are just starting to workout that you do not feel an uncomfortable vibe when you step through the door.
The vibe is important because insecurity plays a big role in if you continue on your workout program or not. Fear is there when you start anything new and the more comfortable you are at your new gym, the better for now.
Another important factor that I run into with my clients is enjoyment level! This may seem weird but the difference between just starting at the gym or staying with your workout for the long haul and seeing results are two different things. Lots of people start out their fitness workouts strong and full of motivation at the gym but then lose interest. This is because they don't LOVE it or even find it fun. Staying in shape requires some passion what you are doing.
So here is my biggest tip. Make sure that what you are doing in the gym is fun for you. I know, you want the quickest most efficient way to get fit right? So did I, but working out and being fit is for life. YOU ARE NOT GOING TO STOP. So you got to have fun! If a movement is the most wonderful, effective, mass boosting, fat burning, miracle exercise in the world and you never do it because you don't like it...what good is it?
When you are starting at the gym, ask your trainer to show you lots of stuff. Go play, and find out what really rocks your socks. You body does not care if you burn 100 calories by doing the treadmill or if its the hokey pokey. Usually if you are having fun, you will burn more any way.
You like martial arts? Then use it as your cardio. You like to walk your dog? You got it, make it a game and go sweat. Go chase the little fuzzy butt. You think weight lifting is boring? Then don't weight lift..train for function and do bodyweight movements like the monks, yogi's and gymnasts do!
You see, the bottom line to fitness inside or outside the gym is calories in versus out and overload. If you burn more than you take in then you lose weight and vice versa. If you want to shape your muscles, you must challenge them. It really is that simple.
Now forget about the gym and working out....GO PLAY!
