Should I Eat Citrus Fruits On A Diet

Hi Ray,

Thanks for checking up on me and giving me extra motivation. I started the workout yesterday. I did abs and cardio yesterday and weight training and cardio today. I found your ab routine with crunches, hip rolls, and the bridge so I am working that when I do just cardio and am doing hanging leg lifts when I do the regular weight training. So if I can stick to the plan I will be exercising 5 to 6 times a week. I used to work out 6 times a week last year so it shouldn’t be too hard to get back into the routine.

I do have a couple questions though. How does citrus fruit fit into the diet? I know bananas and apples are sugary so its better to eat them in the first half of the day but I never thought of oranges as sugary. What do you think?

Also after my weight routine today I got on the cross trainer for some fat burning cardio but my heart rate refused to go down. At a walking pace for 35 minutes my heart rate got to 145. Am I doing anything to burn fat during this time or should I just kick back for a bit at the gym to let my heart slow down first? By the way I am 26 and my resting heart rate is usually around 95, just a fast metabolism i suppose but maybe this should be taken into account when it comes to the fat burning cardio.

I think that’s it for now, if anything else comes up I’ll let you know. Thanks again for all the help and advice and for little things like checking up on me after I bought the book. This is the most detailed workout and diet routine I have ever tried but I am really enjoying it. I actually felt good leaving the gym today instead of beaten up and worn out. I have also noticed an increase in energy and am able to sleep a lot better since I started the diet. I’m really grateful to you and feel lucky to have stumbled across your website the other day. The world needs more altruistic people like you, keep up the great work and stay in touch! Take care and god bless.

Man I love my job Joel. I get to relate information that comes easy for me to people who it helps. I am also lucky enough to be able to make a living doing it. I am blessed and thank you Joel for your kind comments.

Now to answer your questions. Citrus fruit is still a fruit so the sugar and carbs are still there. The Glycemic Index on an orange is lower than most though so IS a better choice than most fruits if you were eating them on their own.

Now for your heart rate. Your actually doing great. The whole thing about high heart rates only burning sugar and having no fat burning potential is wrong. Calories are calories at the end of the day and your heart rate at 145 is still in the 75% range so even if you are a bit higher I would still keep rocking. Unless you feel ill or light headed, enjoy the joy of extreme effort!
